What’s Happening?

Google is sunsetting Universal Analytics properties starting July 1, 2024. After this date, all accounts will need to use Google Analytics 4, which is designed to provide more integrated and user-centric insights without compromising privacy.

Impact on Existing Accounts

Ações recomendadas

Universal Analytics properties will no longer be accessible through the Google Analytics frontend or APIs. This means you will no longer be able to view or collect data using the old version of Analytics. The change affects all integrations and access to historical data, including reports and configured goals.

Recommended Actions

It is crucial to start exporting your historical data as soon as possible to avoid losing valuable information. Google provides support for exporting data to BigQuery, especially for Universal Analytics 360 users, but these processes will also have tight deadlines until June 2024.

Next Steps for Migration

To continue using Analytics without interruption, it is recommended to start migrating to Google Analytics 4 immediately. This new system not only continues to offer in-depth analysis but is also adapted to handle future privacy and data integration challenges.

For now, only the United States and the United Kingdom have access to this novelty, but plans for expansion to other countries and languages are already underway. On March 21st, Google began opening access to Bard. This launch follows the announcements from the previous week, as the company continues to bring useful AI experiences to people, businesses, and communities. For now, the company considers Bard as an “experiment” and not a replacement for traditional searches. Google admits that the system can still provide inaccurate information, which demonstrates the importance of improving this technology through user feedback.

About Bard: It Can Make Mistakes

Bard is powered by a large-scale language model (LLM), specifically an optimized and lightweight version of LaMDA, and will be updated with more advanced models over time. An LLM can be thought of as a prediction engine. Given a prompt, it generates a response by selecting, word by word, those that are likely to come next. Choosing the most likely option each time would not lead to very creative responses, so there is some built-in flexibility. The more people use them, the better LLMs become at predicting useful responses.

However, LLMs also have their flaws. For example, they learn from a broad spectrum of information that reflects real-world biases and stereotypes, which sometimes appear in their responses. Furthermore, they can provide inaccurate, misleading, or false information with confidence. As with other chatbots, prolonged interactions can lead to the emergence of “extreme personalities.” To deal with this, Google has opted to restrict the amount of consecutive interactions that can be had with Bard. After a certain period, the chatbot forgets the previous interaction and starts a new conversation.

When using Bard, you will usually have the option to choose between different response drafts, allowing you to select the best starting point. You can continue collaborating with Bard, asking follow-up questions and requesting alternatives if desired.

Google plans for Bard to function as a direct interface to a large-scale language model (LLM) and be complementary to the Google Search experience. The idea is that with Bard, users can easily check answers generated in Google Search or research information from various sources on the internet. By clicking on “Search with Google,” search suggestions will be displayed, and Search will open in a new tab, allowing you to find relevant results and explore the topic further.

This week, Greg Brockman, President and Co-Founder of OpenAI, took to the public to announce the latest advancements in ChatGPT, and I must say, GPT-4 is mind-blowing!

With a concise presentation devoid of unnecessary theatrics, the President and Co-Founder of OpenAI showcased the latest developments of ChatGPT. He utilized the tool to generate speeches, songs, jokes, and even code in front of millions of viewers, demonstrating impressive capabilities and potential applications of GPT-4 across various domains and tasks.

We had already shown our awe at ChatGPT‘s capabilities before, which was in its 3.5 version, but this week those capabilities reached another level! I mean, if ChatGPT was already revolutionizing everything, GPT-4 is the revolution of the revolution!

How does GPT-4 work?

GPT-4 is based on deep learning, a branch of machine learning that uses neural networks to learn from data. It was trained on a vast amount of texts and images from the Internet, covering various domains and languages, and is capable of predicting the next word or image based on input data.

Using a technique called self-attention, the model can calculate the relevance or similarity between each pair of words or tokens in the input data. For example, for an input sentence “The cat drank milk,” GPT-4 will calculate how much each word relates to every other word in the sentence, such as “cat” with “drink” or “milk.” Based on these calculations, the model will assign different weights or scores to each pair of words, determining how much attention they will receive. By doing this, it can learn which input information is most important or relevant for generating the output. For example, if the task is to complete the sentence, GPT-4 will pay more attention to the word “cat” than to “the” because it is more informative for predicting the next word.

GPT-3.5 vs GPT-4

GPT-4 is not only more capable than its predecessor GPT-3.5, but also more reliable, creative, and able to handle much more complex and nuanced instructions. To demonstrate its abilities, OpenAI tested GPT-4 on a variety of benchmark standards, including simulating exams originally designed for humans. The model was able to pass an exam with a score around 10% higher; in contrast, GPT-3.5’s score was around 10% lower. It also outperformed the previous version in its advanced reasoning capabilities.

OpenAI spent 6 months making GPT-4 safer and more aligned with human values and expectations. It incorporated more human feedback into its training process to improve its behavior and reduce harmful or biased outcomes. It also worked with over 50 experts for early feedback in domains such as security and AI safety.

A major difference is that GPT-4 can accept inputs of both images and text and output text, and has a 10 times greater capacity than its predecessor. To give you an idea, in the presentation, Greg Brockman drew the structure of a web page on paper, and GPT-4 identified what it was and returned the HTML code ready for page programming. Additionally, the tool can also describe images in detail.

The architecture used is also much more evolved, consisting of a deep neural network (called Transformer) that allows multiple layers of attention mechanisms. This enables the intelligence to capture contextual information by drawing parallels and handling large amounts of data.

When I mention the ability to handle large volumes of data, I would like to comment on a part of the demonstration where Greg Brockman copied the entire regulation and instructions for tax filing (over 100 pages) and GPT-4 was able, in seconds, to assist in filing the income tax return! Just imagine how easy our life will be to add entire manuals there and ask if what you want to do is possible! In a matter of seconds, the technology “reads” the manual and answers you, faster than you would take to locate the item in the index!

How to use GPT-4?

There are two main ways to access GPT-4: through ChatGPT Plus or through the API.

ChatGPT Plus is a chatbot service that allows users to interact with GPT-4 and other models through a web interface. Users can ask questions, request tasks, or have casual conversations with GPT-4. To use ChatGPT Plus, users need to subscribe to a plan that costs $20 per month. Benefits include faster response times, priority access to new features, and unlimited usage.

The API is an application programming interface that allows developers to integrate GPT-4 into their own applications and services. Developers can use the API to send requests and receive programmatic responses from GPT-4. To use the API, developers need to join a waiting list and wait for an invitation from OpenAI, as it is currently in beta and has limited availability.

To sign up for ChatGPT Plus or the API, users need to visit the OpenAI website and follow the instructions there. Users can also try out GPT-4 without a subscription in the Microsoft Bing browser, but with limited functionality and availability.

Google is one of the leading technology companies, having invested significantly in artificial intelligence research and development. The company has created Google AI and DeepMind, which are constantly advancing. Nowadays, the largest artificial intelligence computations are doubling in scale every six months, far surpassing Moore’s Law. At the same time, advanced generative AI models and large language models are attracting attention worldwide.

What is Moore’s Law?

A observation made by Intel co-founder Gordon Moore in 1965, predicting that the processing power of computers would double every two years while the cost of production would decrease.

Introducing Bard

Google

Two years ago, Google released the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), an advanced language and conversation technology. Now, Google introduces Bard, an experimental conversational AI service based on LaMDA, but I won’t delve too much into its origins.

Bard’s goal is to combine the vastness of worldwide knowledge with Google’s powerful, intelligent, and creative large language models, providing fresh and high-quality answers from web information. Bard can be a tool for creativity and curiosity, or for learning and then providing exercises to develop skills.

Let’s say a 9-year-old child is interested in understanding how electricity works. With Bard, it’s possible to ask questions like “How does electricity work?” and receive simple and clear answers that the child can easily understand, such as “Electricity is a type of energy that flows through wires and is used to power lamps, televisions, and other electronic devices.” Bard can even provide examples of how electricity is used in everyday life, such as turning on a computer or lighting a lamp, as well as exercises to reinforce newly learned content.

How Can I Use Bard?

The service will be available soon to the general public. What I know is that Google is launching Bard with a lighter, smaller version that requires less processing power, allowing more users to access the service and provide feedback. They are excited about this testing phase, as it will help to learn and further improve the quality and speed of Bard.

I couldn’t find official information on exactly when Bard will be available to the public. Some sources say it’ll be throughout February 😳, while Google itself says ‘coming soon’… So stay tuned! When I find out, I swear I’ll come here to tell you.

ChatGPT vs. Bard

As language models, ChatGPT and Bard have some similarities, as both are products of Artificial Intelligence and use complex algorithms to generate responses to the questions posed to them. However, there are some significant differences between them:

Bard is a more advanced technology compared to ChatGPT, as it is designed to have more natural and fluid conversations with people.

It can better understand the context and nuances of natural language. This is possible because Bard uses more advanced Natural Language Processing technologies and incorporates a variety of techniques, such as topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and understanding user intent.

These techniques allow Bard to understand the underlying meaning of the words and phrases used by users, and thus provide more accurate and relevant answers to their questions, creating a more natural and intuitive experience. In summary, Bard is capable of maintaining a more fluid and natural conversation with people.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, is more of a tool to answer specific questions more directly.
